That I Am Getting Old

Before my birthday month ends - I really wanted to contribute a piece of my writing for a social cause. I wrote a poem 'That I Am Getting Old' for my poetry portfolio. Also submitted to an editor. (Fingers crossed). Sharing my portfolio link with all of you. You can also read it here on my page (next to the link provided).
Notes About The Poem :
"Getting old is a phase of life. It should be accepted gracefully by a person. But more than that it needs to be accepted by his or her loved ones. We all will age with time - before or after doesn't matter. But what really matters is the support of family and children for the older people. It is a cycle of life. I wrote this poem assuming myself getting old".

Honorable Mention - Another Recognition of 2016!!

My haiku received Honorable Mention at 2016 International Matsuo Bashō Award. The only feeling that help me to write better each day - not to look back in life. To cover my losses, I have to invest time and efforts. Late but still not too late.

I believe - it is not write for the top journals. But write in such a way that an ordinary journal becomes a top journal. My grandfather told me the mantra of his life - 'one who sleeps for long can never enjoy the first light. To reach at the top, your focus should be only at the peak not the hurdles encountered during the trail walk'. I am sure if he could see me from Heaven - he would not regret anymore. I might not live as I am mortal..but my name will live after me...the best gift for my family, and my loved ones.

Here is the link to the list of winning and mentioned poets.

Winning Prize Comes To Me!

Few years ago, I asked my mother, and my husband - 'do you think I am just a housewife?'

My husband just told me a statement – ‘I am always proud of you.’

I was like – what does this mean???

My mother just told me a statement - it doesn't matter what others think? What really matters is what you think about yourself. There are two ways for any woman to answer in this world  - sarcasm or success. If you think that you are just one housewife, answer it -with grace and dignity. And, being a housewife is a task of patience, and quite challenging (as my mother was one of them and I am proud of her). Adding to it my mother said - 'you can never be satisfied in being one, Archana. I know you. I have brought you up more like a boy than a girl'. Your astrology is different from others. You are born for a reason. Look for it!

There was a time I used to get bored. Now there is a time when I have no time to think about anything else.

A long journey of almost 6 years with this blog, and almost 900+ posts. Of course, it feels good. A number of winning certificates that I had won in the genre of short story writing, and Japanese poetry. It seems like a dream to me.

Today, if I look back, I smile, I do cry, I hug myself, and I tell myself - 'you did it for yourself'.

Great to share I just got my winning cash voucher in my bank account. I have received 17 certificates in my kitty, after I had left Deloitte.

Above all I am almost set to start my second course from November, once my preliminary tests are accomplished for creative writing. Then I can appear for exams as per my convenience along with the other course (will upload the details).

I just completed my assignments and time to work on my project report for the next two months. I am also submitting my work to journals until then.

Whispers published my work, and here are five haiku for all of you. Thank you for the comments as it inspires to write more and more.

Above all, an email from Karen just makes my day. She sends her messages woven in words of inspiration and encouragement.

first light …
filling the emptiness
of my new home
_______________

old memories …
still rests on the stem
a dragonfly’s wing
 _______________

waiting
to be taken over …
autumn mushrooms
_______________

in loneliness
reading the epitaph
in reverse
_______________

the only thing
between you and me …
a dandelion flower

Yet the journey is long, indeed, very long.

*** My Story Is A Winning Story - Bonobology Short Story Contest ***

I am quite different from the writer that you read on my blog, or in my stories. I am not a believer in words like love, emotions, weddings, celebrations, birthdays, anniversaries, and so called family. Experience crafted me more like a practical person in real life.

But as a writer, I am very emotional about my characters, plot and the story line. I love to experiment with my thoughts, emotions, experiences and miseries. I play with my words to portray my characters completely different from me. If I would have been like my characters maybe I would not have been a good writer. Well, the good news is that as I give in too much of efforts in presenting my protagonist - my story gets shortlisted as a winning story out of 100 odd entries for this contest. Please the character Archana in this story is not me as I do not have kids and I am not facing this situation BUT if I was like this character - how my life would have been. Basically, I could not think of a better name than mine. This story is bit edited by the editors as per the magazine's requirements.

To understand the psychology and physiology of a protagonist is the biggest challenge for any short story writer. Not being a mother of two children yet to think like one was quite a challenge for me. This story is inspired by mothers around me who finds it hard to devote time to their interests. They do suffer of identity-crisis, and that’s quite obvious. I wanted to write a short story getting out of my comfort zone.

It gives me immense pleasure to be among the top three winners (in no particular order) out of more than 100 odd entries. I dedicate this story to every woman who thinks that she needs or deserves a day for herself, as well. Thank you to my friends who shared their problems with me from where I created this character Archana, in my story .

Thank you to my editors and the entire team of Bonobology for shortlisting my story as a winning story. You can register and leave your comment at the below link – where you can read my story as well. Hope you will like it. Share and spread the message!

A good start of the week!

Happy Monday!

Gnarled Oak Published Longest Night!

A haiku published in Gnarled Oak, Issue 8. It is inspired by my childhood days when I used to study late nights, and frequent power cuts in Delhi was a serious concern. A candle light was my only hope. Never thought one day it will be expressed in a haiku. 'Where there is a will, there is always a way!'

Gnarled Oak Issue 8 includes my haiku. Thank you for all the likes, and encouraging comments -
