IS Homosexuality a Disease??- India must include MSM: UNAIDS

A statement by India’s Union Health Minister – Ghulam Nabi Azad has raised lot of questions. His one statement or I must say comment “men having sex with men (MSM) is a "disease" and "unnatural" has put India at a very low platform globally. Where in US same-sex marriages are encouraged and bills are passed for approval (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jun/16/us-politics-new-york) we are still considering homosexuality as a disease and a reason for AIDS.

Homosexuality is a choice or preference and has nothing to be categorised as disease. If the person who represents the Health Ministry of our country is not updated with the realities he need not comment. What is the future of our Health Ministry, left up to God as many other things?

It has discouraged lot of organisations and activists who are working for gay rights in our country. I am not able to relate why is the discrimination being done in India on the basis of factors that are natural?

I guess our Union Health Minister needs to know following few updates:

·         "Even the UN passed a resolution saying that the LGBT community has equal rights as anyone else and cannot be discriminated on the basis of their sexual orientation”.

·         According to NACO, there are more than 400,000 men who have sex with men in India. HIV prevalence in this population is about 7.3 percent compared to a national adult HIV prevalence of 0.31 percent. India has over 2.5 million HIV positive people.

·         "India's rich tradition of inclusivity and social justice must include men who have sex with men and transgender people," Michel Sidibe, UNAIDS executive director, said in a statement.

·         "There is no place for stigma and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Consistent with World Health Organisation (WHO) disease classification, UNAIDS does not regard homosexuality as a disease."

Homosexuality is not a disease and there is no place for discrimination on the basis of a person's sexual orientation, UNAIDS emphasised.

I am glad we have data to support gay rights. And just to add it is not a disease that has travelled from western countries. It is prevalent in India from many years but just that gay rights are not supported and has made them to live a closeted life suppressing their desires and needs.

Come forward, understand homosexuality and if you cannot respect it then do not comment also. You might put the image of India at stake.

Respect !!!!

Slutwalk and What I Think?

Slutwalk and what I think???

I think indeed question myself one thing – what else one should do?

When the women is not given liberty to live the way she wants that too in today’s era when she is managing some of the most influential positions, one has to come forward to fight for their rights.

But wearing revealing clothes during campaigning has given a negative edge to slutwalk. Not only that, the word ‘slut’ has not given strength to revolution indeed has pushed it back. Maybe these two factors have gone against the real purpose of slutwalk.

But at the end I wonder how hard it would have been to be a part of this walk???

6 PRINCIPLES OF LIFE

Those who follow my blog know that I always write live your life and love your life. Money is just anything in your life not everything in your life.

This post is inspired by an email sent to me by my husband and I could not resist myself posting in on my blog. Maybe you would have read it but still read it again and follow each word as life is only great when you are HAPPY, not when you are RICH.

1 No point using limited life to chase unlimited money.

2 No point earning so much money you cannot live to spend it.

3 Money is not yours until you spend it.

4 When you are young, you use your health to chase your wealth; when you are old, you use your wealth to buy back your health.
Difference is that, it is too late.

5 How happy a man is, is not how much he has but how little he needs.

6 No point working so hard to provide for the people you have no time to spend with.

Remember this -- We come into this world with nothing and we leave this world with nothing!

Here is the proof that you don't have to have money to be happy.

Love Yourself!

Chapter 1: Heard and Read about SLUTWALK!!

Ask a man what you prefer – sexful life or successful life!

No doubts the answer would be the former. But when it comes to slutwalk they blame women of their sensitivity. Spare us of the horror and understand the right intention behind slutwalk!

Heard and Read about Slutwalk!!

But I did a lot of research before posting this for my readers. The idea is that I should know the exact purpose of slutwalk before I write around this.

History of Slutwalk

We must know what kicked off the slutwalk. There are two sides to every object or event and so to better your understanding you need to go back into the history of slutwalk. A comment by a Canadian Cop has brought a global revolution and has made thousands of women walking on the roads of the globe in much more revealing clothes to fight for their rights to dress with liberty and desire. The question coming into their minds would be why a ‘rape’ is associated with their ‘dressing desires’. A man can flaunt himself but a woman is not allowed to.  What triggered the slutwalk was protest marches began on April 3, 2011 in Toronto, Canada and became a movement of rallies across the world. Participants protest against explaining or excusing rape by referring to any aspect of a woman's appearance. The rallies began when Constable Michael Sanguinetti, a Toronto Police officer, suggested that to remain safe, "women should avoid dressing like sluts." The protest takes the form of a march, mainly by young women, where some dress in ordinary clothing and others dress provocatively. There are also speaker meetings and workshops. Some objectors have remarked that this approach is an example of women defining their sexuality in male terms. Slutwalk has taken over many countries into its gamut as the below dates highlight the revolution picking up:

San Diego - June 11

Chicago - June 4

Edmonton - June 4

Amsterdam - June 4

Sweden - June 4

Denmark - June 4

Brazil - June 4

Canberra - June 4

Los Angeles - June 4

Cardiff - June 4

San Diego - June 11

New Delhi - June 25

Slutwalking gained popularity in Canada after a judge, presiding over a rape case pronounced in his courtroom that since the victim was wearing make-up and drinking, “rape was in the air”. He felt the victim’s clothes and behaviour were to blame for her plight and decided to let the rapist off without any jail time, just probation.

I have a question around this judgement. There are instances where women are dressed traditionally (to be specific wrapped up in saris, salwar kameez or absolutely no revealing clothes) but still they are raped. So how such cases would be accessed? We cannot create an excuse to neglect the crime. There are many women who are raped because of the intentions and not because of their clothes. If clothes would have been the cases then the number of rape cases in UP would not have been rising where 14 years old girl was raped and set to fire. I think she did not know what a short dress is? All she knew was playing and enjoying childhood. Think why women have to come on the roads in revealing clothes to tell that they are not piece of flesh for hungry men!!!
